Mission Statement
The mission of the Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is to serve the citizens of the Parish through effective planning for natural and man-made disasters. Our goal is to save lives and to protect property through the coordination of an integrated emergency management system with all emergency response organizations, support services and volunteers. We will be an advocate for greater community efforts, including educating the general public to mitigate and prepare for potential emergencies. We will support efforts to train and exercise emergency responders in both the public and private sectors. We will manage and coordinate efforts toward a rapid recovery from disasters with an effective disaster assistance program. This office will be the point of distribution of Homeland Security information and intelligence to agencies throughout the parish. We are committed to effective actions designed to prevent some disasters and to reduce the impact of those over which we have no control.

Do You Have Your Emergency Preparedness Plans in Place?
A local OEP office serves as a coordinating agency, not a first responding agency. All citizens, businesses, and industry should have their own self-sufficient emergency preparedness plan. NOW is the time to prepare for a disaster! Use the links on our webpage to prepare for a disaster. It could be 48 hours before government and first responders can assist you.
Remember: “The first 48 are on you”
*********The Special Needs Registry has moved! The Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness implemented a new Special Needs Registry through Everbridge, The Ascension Parish Community Alerting System. By utilizing the Ascension Parish Community Alerting System, Residents with Special Needs can not only sign up for special needs, but receive emergency alerts, weather alerts, and community alerts as well.
Visit the “sign up for Emergency Alerts today!” tab to sign up for the NEW special needs registry, and receive emergency alerts. You can also visit our Community Alerting System website directly at everbridge.apgov.us For residents without computer access, our Citizens Service Center can sign you up! Simply call: 225-450-1200 during normal business hours, and we will be happy to register you. Disclaimer: While the information submitted in the older version of the Special Needs Registry is currently on file with the Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness, contact information was not automatically migrated to the Community Alerting system. You must re-register for the new Ascension Parish Community Alerting if you previously registered with our old special needs registry. Notice of Disclaimer Enrolling in the registry should never be considered as the only action necessary to prepare for disasters, nor does it ensure prompt and thorough response after a disaster strikes. The Medical Special Needs Registry is a voluntary program for those persons in Ascension Parish who may need specific disability-related assistance and/or accommodations in the event of a major disaster. Specific accommodations and assistance needs may include communicating through alternative means, requiring specialized paratransit services, life sustaining medications or equipment, etc.*******Hurricane Tracking Chart
